Fragments of Home

Mount Baldy: 20″ x 16″ Acrylic on Canvas

As a first generation Asian woman living in Canada, finding a sense of home has not always been easy. Integrating into a “Canadian culture” that attempts to erase your colours, yet awkwardly trying to fit in during visits to Vietnam has been my reality for years. Perhaps it’s time to let go of the pursuit of belonging to one geographic location, to one culture, to one ethnic group.

Through rare but precious moments, I have been able to settle into spaces that elicit a felt-sense of home. The Alberta rockies provide shelter as one of those spaces. Here stands beautiful Mount Baldy, one of my first summit climbs—and one I love returning to.
